The Stolen Kingdom
BY JILLIAN BOEHME
Nothing is quite as it seems in this thrilling YA fantasy adventure by Jillian Boehme, The Stolen Kingdom!
For a hundred years, the once-prosperous kingdom of Perin Faye has suffered under the rule of the greedy and power-hungry Thungrave kings. Maralyth Graylaern, a vintner's daughter, has no idea her hidden magical power is proof of a secret bloodline and claim to the throne. Alac Thungrave, the king's second son, has always been uncomfortable with his position as the spare heir―and the dark, stolen magic that comes with ruling.
When Maralyth becomes embroiled in a plot to murder the royal family and seize the throne, a cat-and-mouse chase ensues in an adventure of dark magic, court intrigue, and forbidden love.
Meet the best woman
Newly single, no-nonsense New Yorker Dani is done with love—she even has a list entitled “Things I Will Never Again Do for a Man”—which is why she hits it off with notorious rake Max. He’s the perfect partner for snow angels in Central Park and deep conversations about the futility of love.
It’s all fun and games until their friendship deepens into attraction and, oops…
Falling in love was never part of the plan.

My Review:
2 Stars. Just another basic fantasy storyline that if you have read YA novels for a while, you have read over 100 times. The book's start was definitely slow going, and I struggled to get to a point where I actually wanted to finish the story, as I found the world-building with events to be annoying. (This could be because I read some fantastic books this month because you know quarantine) The plot of women hiding their magic is just overdone for me. Regardless, this would be a great book for someone who wants to get back into reading or start fantasy readings. This is a great standalone that is well written, with more modern themes added in. This book will get you sucked into the great world of fantasy, just not for me.
